Coloured glazes, in which the pigments are blended to the liquid glaze before it really is placed on the pottery, are mainly applied to present an individual colour to a complete piece, as in most celadons, but may also be applied to produce layouts in contrasting colours, as in Chinese sancai ("three-colour") wares, as well as painted scenes.This
